Innocence was Youth

Innocence was Youth

A Poem by Sophie
"

Growing up sucks.

"

Innocence is Youth

and, to tell you the truth,

Youth isn't Immortal,

there is no fountain,

only Life's mountain.

Innocence comes out to play

rolling and dancing in the day

her hair of white

shining in the golden sunlight

But in the night

Adult and Maturity come to fight

They take over Innocence's world,

her white world of happiness,

fill it with the grey

and the mundane

They fill Innocence's laughing happy mind,

with nothing but shame,

filth and grime.

Why is Innocence repremanded?

Why is Immortality a lie?

Instead of a grey, clouded sky,

can't we see the stars shine?

To tell you the truth,

Innocence was once Youth.
