Painting Faces

Painting Faces

A Poem by Sophie
"

Have you ever heard of The Mask that people use? I've noticed it's mostly girls...

"

Faking happiness is an art

It takes a lot of skill, a lot of practice

but mostly,

it takes a broken heart.

I've noticed

that when men get broken

and unhappy

they move on

and wallow

waiting for a new dawn

But when a girl gets broken

and mangled

she has to hide it

she has to fight it

So the fake smile is painted on her face,

the water used to clean the brush,

her own tears.

The red lips,

painted in blood,

longing for another kiss.

Men, they don't have to fake

they don't have to paint their face

because they aren't forced to

they aren't seen as weak

they don't have to hide every sob

every shriek.

Faking smiles is an art

it takes a lot of red paint

but mostly,

it takes a broken heart

and some pain.

I love how this was written. Again, you manage to take reality and arrange it beautifully into a work of art. You take the truth and put it in to create something beautiful.

I really like this too.....actually we all hide behind many masks. We hide scars and pain that sometimes we bury so deep even we can't see them.

Love how this is written, and how this poem has an introduction, a body, and a conclusion and takes pieces of the body. It's like an essay in poem form. (It shows I'm writing a final paper haha) Nice write :)

This is an accurate description of many girls I know, include me at times. Luckily I have friends helping me remove my long-worn mask and open up to the world, i guess that's lucky. Anyway, I love this piece because of how well I can relate and how well you wrote it. Thank you.
