Dust to Dust

Dust to Dust

A Poem by Sophie

Fire to Ashes
Ashes to Dust
If now is the fire,
what comes later?
What if instead of
the complex machines
we dream of,
instead results a decaying,
violent world?
Call that Ashes
still resembling what had burned
then the tables turn
The violence recedes
to quiet submission
for a single team has won
the race for life
in this new world that is
decomposed, dumb
The Dust has settled
The ashes have disintegrated,
bu who says
that this is bad?
Maybe humanity is better off
never knowing emotion
never knowing "mad"
Maybe Dust
is what we need to survive?
Maybe Dust is what we need to thrive?
But what if,
Dust just coats the spark
Needed to ignite the fire?
And bring humanity back to life?

Author's Note

Sophie
This is sort of like looking into the future, the way I see it, we are in the Ashes stage. Violent, rotting (as in government, minds AND the environment). Fire was when the world was natural, and people thrived, living off of the earth, like they had to. (Though, I'm a hypocrite, I hate the outdoors... ): )

It's not my favorite piece of yours, honestly, but I really like the idea of it and the ending was strong and hopeful. Intriguing concept. Thank you.
