CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
Agree to Disagree The Group walked behind their escort Professor Terry Boot talking. "Professor Dotisti is a strange bloke. Sometimes he talks so fast I could barely understand him." Alex said to James. "Yeah, but he se really know his stuff though. That Draught of Living Death is some serious stuff." Harris nodded. "My dad used to read us the Muggle stories. One was about a girl that was poisoned by an evil witch. The girl slept as if she was dead." James said. "My mum told me that she was given the Draught potion." Rose added. "Tht sounds like a horror story" Betsy shivered. "What's the name of the story Al?" Janice asked. "Sleeping Beauty." James and Albus said at the same time then giggled. They all laughed as they approached the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Professor Boot ushered them in. "Thank you Mr. Boot." Aberforth waived. Terry waived the left to his own class just down the hall. "Good afternoon class." Professor Dumbledore greeted. "Good afternoon Professor!" They all greeted in return. "Before we begin todays lesson I want to express to you all at how tremendously pleased I am at being you Professor. I'm actually beside myself. Our new Transfiguration teacher, Professor Hornsby gloated and bragged about her first class with you. How amazed she was at your skills with the use of non-verbal spells." Aberforth beamed. "Especially you James Potter. She said that she has never seen anyone draw their wand that fast and that you are the only one to ever hit her with a transfiguring spell causing her to change almost completely. But don't let that go to your head being over confident can get you seriously hurt even killed." Aberforth smiled watching James get pats on the back from the other students. Today you are going to learn boundary protects. Can anyone tell me why these are so important?" Aberforth asked. "Yes Ms. Volar?" he urged. "Boundary spells are set in place to either hide you and others from anyone trying to find you. Or to alert you should anyone come around your area." Britny explained then sat down. "Very good and ten points to Ravenclaw. These type of spells are easily enough to cast. The strength of the protection determines the strength of the persons own magic. Now can anyone tell me one of these enchantments?" he asked. "Yes Ms. Chan?" He said. Page 176 "One is SALVIO HEXIA. It is the salvation or sanctuary charm that will prevent almost all Hexes while keeping the person safe." Su-Wa answered. "That's a great one. Ten points to Ravenclaw. During the war with Voldemort. This was the enchantment that saved many people who were trying to hide. It took Voldemort and all his followers several hours to finally break through some of the barriers set in place. Any others?" he urged them. "Yes Mr. Dovelman?" Aberforth pointed to him. "PROTEGO TOTALUM. The charm that put forth a protection around the entire area to where nobody can see or hear you. But you can see and hear them." Hewortt sat down. Yes and ten points for Gryffindor. Though the area of the charm is vast. Usually the encircled area generally ranges within a fifty foot radius. Ok, next one?" Aberforth began to get excited as usual. "Yes Ms. Weasley?" He pointed. "REPELLIO MUGGLETUM. To ward off Muggles to they don't stumble across or see any magical dwelling or area. Most muggles when they come in contact with this enchantment they become confused as to why they are there or just simply turn away." Rose said then took her seat. "Very good and ten points to Gryffindor. This charm was first initially set forth by our founders of this school. History tells us that this enchantment was invented by Salazar Slytherin. Who many of you know that he personally had a great dislike for Muggletum. Almost all of the magical homes throughout the world use this enchantment. What's another one?" Aberforth asked as he walked among the class. "Yes Mr. Malfoy?" he pointed to him. "MUFFLIATO. So that you can speak or pretty much go about your duties within the protection boundaries without being heard." Scorpius informed. "Yes and ten points to Slytherin. Muffliato is a charm that must be used when you are putting up any boundary protections. It virtually strengthens the others like SALVIO HEXIA, PROTEGO TOTALUM, and REPELLIO MUGGLETUM. MUFFLIATO can be used by itself should you not want to be over heard for the moment. "Now once you leave the protected area, these hexes and charms will automatically be broken. There are many powerful dark spells that can break these enchantments. For instance, when Voldermort had his name tabooed, so as that anyone who dared to speak his name, they could instantly be found and tortured if not killed. He did this to find members of the Order of Phoenix and Harry Potter. The Dark Lord knew they were the most threating to him and on top of that he knew they were afraid of him or his name." Aberforth paused for a second as what he said soaked in. Page 177 "I know that you all are very smart. But I think that I just might be able to get one pass you. Can anyone here tell me what the FIDELIUS CHARM is?" Aberforth grinned. Seeing everyone look around at each other. He thought that he had finally stumped them. Just when he was about to explain it he saw a hand raise in the air. "Yes Mr. Potter." He smiled. "It's the charm cast by a single person where a dwelling is to be kept secret. Only the secret keeper can give the address to the location. If anyone that knows the where abouts, the tongue tying curse usually is cast so that the secrets are safe." Albus explained. "Very good Mr. Potter. Ten points to Gryffindor. My brother when he created the Order of Phoenix he was also its secret keeper. So only he could tell you where the Head Quarters was located. The place that has this enchantment can only be broken by two ways. One, if another person is named secret keeper, or if you accidentally appear with someone else holding on to you when you arrive. Then the enchantment isn't broken but it sure is compromised. For the remainder of class. I want you to open your texts and read chapters fifty-eight and fifty-nine. Tomorrow we will go out into the Quidditch arena where in groups you will cast these enchantments. So study the spells and their theories you be graded on them. You may begin." Aberforth rounded his desk and sat down. Everyone set to read the chapters assigned. At the sound of the bell Professor Dumbledore dismissed the class. The House Girl waited outside for them. Once assembled she escorted them to their charms class with Professor Flitwick. "Saying spells non-verbally was hard at first but now I find myself saying all the spells non-verbally." Albus spoke up as they all walked. "Most of the spells and enchantments we all learned ages ago. But, is it me or are all of our classes based on protection spell?" Rose wondered. Everyone fell silent for a long moment as if to ponder the question. "You know come to think about it you might be right. We haven't learned anything just simply for the knowledge of magic. Even in History of Magic class with Professor Binns. All he wants to talk about is the past evil dark wizards and witches." Scorpius remarked. "Yeah really it’s as if they are more on us learning how to protect ourselves than anything. Like their getting us ready for another war or something" James added. "We sure are learning advanced magic way before we're supposed to." Su-Wa said. "I can't say that I blame them for wanting to teach us all how to protect ourselves. I only heard the stories of how bad it was when Voldemort was in power. All of the teachers here were eye witnesses to those times. If I were them I would be doing the same things Page 178 with my children. Especially now with a new dark wizard who likes to torture his victims running about." Hewortt shrugged. "Do you guys think they might be thinking that this new dark wizard is worse than when Voldemort was alive?" Shea asked the Group. "I don't know Shea, but my grandmum says that this new dark wizard is showing signs that he is far worse than Voldemort ever was." Alex spoke up. "Why do think that is Alex?" Betsy asked him. "Because even Voldemort didn't dare to enter Hogwarts and attack the professors." Alex smirked. "Yeah, but that was because he was afraid of Headmaster Dumbledore or else he might have tried. I think you may be right that whoever it is, is much worse than Voldemort. Everyone that Voldemort tortured he killed. This guy tortures people either for information or just for fun of it." Albus said in disgust. "Yeah dad said that this guy wants to send a message to either a specific person or everybody." James added as they approached the Charms classroom. "Something is definitely building. The professors just aren't telling us what it is." Rose spoke as he passed by her three cousins. James leaned in to Albus so only he could hear. "Yeah but we know one professor who will tell us or at least what's going on." He said with a sheepish smile. Albus smiled back knowing exactly who his older brother was referring to. The remainder of the day’s classes went on as scheduled. Like most of the Group had discussed earlier. The rest of their classes were based on their being able to be protected. In Charm class they learned the three cousin blasting spells of DEPRIMO 'to blast a hole through anything', EXPULSO, 'to blow anything up', and IMPEDIMENTA, 'to blast a person backwards'. In Muggle Studies with Professor Boot, he taught how many of the magical community have come to the aid of many attacks, disasters, and tragedies. He recounted to the time he came across a raging fire that had engulfed a business. He went around back used a disillusionment charm to conceal himself. Then froze the flames that had over taken the back of the building. Entering he used the AQUAMENTI charm to help put out most of the fires although the building was in ruins. The neighboring stores were saved from any fire damage. He instructed that there are strict guide lines with the Ministry of Magic in the use of magic in the presence of a Muggle. But, when you are able to protect someone from harm or severe injury and you are able to conceal the use of magic then use your own discretion. In History of Magic, Professor Binns taught about the ancient Druids around the same time of Merlins life. The Druid Occult was set in place by Merlin to help those who were oppressed by the evil tyrants of the age. That it was then that many of the protective spells they learn Page 179 about in today’s age. Were invented back then, many by Merlins inner circle and apprentices. Several of his own members had been tempted and consumed by the dark arts to the point that they did everything they could to disrupt the common balance between magical and Muggle people alike. Which eventually started the witch hunts forcing wizards and witches into hiding learning and teaching magic in secret. The evening approached as all the school sat down to eat their last meal of the day. James looked around for his quarry. Seeing him sit up at staffs table eating quietly while talking to Hagrid. James tapped Albus and Rose on their shoulders. "Come on guys. It's gonna take all three of us." James said as he walked past the two. Approaching the table with his siblings in close tow. "Excuse me Professor Longbottom. Can we speak to you for a minute?" James asked looking up at Nevelle. He looked down at the three recognizing the familiar expressions he narrowed his eyes at the three. "I'm about to be ganged up on aren't I?" He then cocked an eyebrow at the three. "Well, we kinda wanted to talk to you as Uncle Nevelle not as Professor Longbottom." Albus inquired. Looking from him to Rose who had that intense look on her face that she inherited from her mother. The look of not taking no for an answer. "Yup! I'm 'bout to be ganged up on. Come you three." Nevelle gestured forward as he excused himself then walked over and bent over to Mcgonagal's side. "Excuse me Headmistress. I'm taking these three to my office for a discussion. I will see them safely back to Gryffindor Tower." He informed then ushered them out of the Great Hall. Mcgonagal nodded her head and just as Nevelle had done she narrowed her eyes then raised eyebrow at the three. For she too knew what those looks meant. Shaking her head with a slight chuckle she concentrated back on her salad. Entering the office the sun was beginning its final decent for the day. Turning the sky’s pinkish orange hues to slate gray. Now sitting in a circle Nevelle leaned forward clasping his hands together he rested his arms on his knees. "Ok, what's up?" He asked. "We were getting kinda worried. We noticed that every class since the attack on Professor Zabini and Uncle Lee was killed. That all we been learning is defense and attacking spells." James spoke first. "Yeah it's like every class is defense against the dark arts." Albus seconded. "The magic that we are learning in some of our classes are sixth and seventh year lessons. We want to know what's going on?" Rose spoke earnestly. Nevelle sat back the let out a huge sigh. "I told Minerva that this was going to happen." He said as he paused. "Listen kids, I'm going to lie to you. You're too smart for that. You keep this to yourselves alright? Page 180 I know Scorpius is your friend and from what Harry has told me about Draco that you all are now family. Which I must admit that I never would have dreamed that possible. And that you three are the reason for that happening. You know if you three ever run for a political office I'm going to tell your opponents that they don't stand a chance." Nevelle smirked which earned giggles from the three siblings. "So you can tell Scorpius but no one else is that understood?" He said now in his stern teaching voice. When all three nodded he began. "You are right about some of the things you're wondering about. When Blaise Zabini was attacked it shocked and rekindled the fear in many of us. We have had nineteen years of peace. We had thought that it was an isolated incident meant only for him. He has made some enemies since leaving school after the battle. But when Lee was attacked and died because of his injuries. Minerva and Kingsley were in quite a state. We believe as Professor Dumbledore and Professor Snape. That a very evil new dark wizard has risen up. This person or persons have a very dangerously hidden agenda. He is trying to send us a dangerous message, whatever that may be. At least with Voldemort we KNEW who he was and what or rather who he was after. "Many of the lessons that you are learning are the very same things that your parents taught us in our fifth year when we created the D.A. Dumbledore's Army. It's what we learned then that helped all of us to defend ourselves when we fought and ultimately defeated Voldemort and his Death Eater's. I know that many of these lessons seem basic to you. But none of the other students grew up in the families that you three have. Basic? Yes! Important?...DEFINATELY!" Nevelle emphasized those meanings. "What can we do to help?" Rose asked. "Help the other students that seem to be struggling with the lessons. Nothing else." Nevelle said sternly. "Don't go all heroic on me. I know first-hand from what wizarding stock you three come from." Nevelle tilted his head at them looking through squinted eyes. "Uncle Nevelle, we are your age when you and our parents started fighting Voldemort. Even Uncle George says that we are stronger magically than our parents were at our age." Albus spoke out. "I know that you may think that you are advanced enough to tackle this new threat. And yes, in many ways than any of us may want to admit that you are stronger magically than we are. But I urge you to understand that this isn't the same this time. I was there from the beginning. I had a V.I.P. front row seat. These are different times, much more dangerous times. You have got to trust me on this. Please don't go and do anything stupid! Both of your mum's would hang my hide out for the Threstals to gorge on if anything happened to you three." Nevelle spoke sternly but in a worried tone. Page 181 "Ok Uncle Nevelle. We won't do anything but help the others." James said with a sigh. "James Potter you are Fred and George all wrapped up in one little boy, and you Albus Potter, I've seen many of aftermaths of when your mind is set on doing something you believe in. As for you Rose Weasley, your Mum was the only person I was ever scared of in school. And you are her all over again with your dads temper and arrogance to boot. You three together are unstoppable even to the point of being dangerous. You can get yourselves hurt if not killed." Nevelle spoke now even more worried. "Don't worry Uncle Nevelle we'll be good." Albus smiled. "When you say don't worry...is when I start to worry." Nevelle grinned. "Come on you three amigos. It's getting late I'll take you back to Gryffindor Tower." He ushered them to the door then left the office. Walking behind the kids Nevelle couldn't help but think of how Harry, Ron, and Hermoine used to stick together whenever you saw one the other two weren't far away. Like their parents they too also wanted to save the wizarding world. Nevelle just shook his head in a silent a chuckle. "What! Students out of their common room after hours...." "Can it Filch there with me. Why don't you go find something more useful to do?” Nevelle said interrupting the care taker before he could pick up any steam. "Oh...um..I didn't see you Professor." Filch said curling his lip at the four of them. Walking off he appeared to talk to himself about the old ways of punishment. Approaching the Fat Lady Nevelle smiled up at her. "MIMBUS NOSTIA" He said as he gave the password. "Correct" she smiled as she opened the portal to the Gryffindor common room. Saying their goodnights the three went to the couches and sat down. "Where did you guys run off to?" Hewortt asked as he set his Herbology book on the table. "We had a family dispute so we went to the Professor to sort it out." James answered with a shrug. "It must have been a bad one for you to go to the Head of House." Janice spoke up. "It wasn't like that. You see we grew up calling him Uncle Nevelle long before we came to school. He was here in the same year as our parents and fought in the Great War and Battle of Hogwarts." Albus said in a tone that suggested that he wanted to drop the subject. Mostly everyone had left to the dormitories. Hewortt sat on the sofa staring into the flames. Across the country side in the Potters kitchen. Minister Shacklebolt sat at the table listening to the end of what Harry wanted to talk to him about. Page 182 "I really must be on my way Harry. Thank you Ginny for a great dinner tea. I can't tell you how long it has been sense I was able to sit at a formal table and eat such a meal." Kingsley smiled. "You are welcome here anytime Minister." she returned the smile. "Thank you for listening." Harry said as he shook his hand. "I will do all that I can to do it. After all I am the Minster of Magic. But, there are channel of command that even I have to follow. I will let you know the outcome as soon as I do. You of all people have the right to ask for such a request. Be prepared to meet strong resistance. As your friend I will do all that I can. As Minister of Magic I will do what is best. Goodnight to you and thank you once again." Kingsley said as he pointed at the old rusted wire hanger on the side table. "PORTUS!" the hanger turned bright electric blue then slowly returned to its natural color. Smiling he touched the hanger and vanished. Ginny walked into Harry's embrace leaning her head on his shoulder. "On scale of one to ten what do you think the chances are?" She asked. "Oh...probably around minus 3.5 if everyone gets their say on the matter." Harry giggled. "Let's tuck Lily in then go to bed....or something." she smiled wickedly. Climbing the stairs the down the second story hallway. Ginny opened the door to Lily's room. The bed covers were disturbed. But there was no red headed nine year old in sight. "Harry!" she called out. "It's ok I found her." Harry said smiling. Walking down the hall to Kreachers room. She saw her little girl curled up against Kreacher with her arm around him as his to comfort and protect him. Harry grabbed a thick blanket then laid it over the two of them. Bending down he kissed her forehead. “I will never forget that scene as long as I live.” Ginny said as she did the same. "No me neither." Harry nodded. Both parents walked out closing the door softly. Sirius's mother sat in her painted frame looking at the scene. Giving a soft whimper she closed the curtains concealing her. © 2016 kevin Montgomery |
