For DC...the love of my life...June 17, 1962---February 15, 1999

I remember the night we met

Love at first sight with no regrets

Loving came easy'

Ah, but communication was best

 

You helped to bring out that "real" part of me

While I would thank God for me even meeting you

You would stare in my eyes and whisper

"You saved my life"

 

I couldn't believe anyone could love me so free

never once belittling or raising a hand

A first for me in my dealing with men

I had given up on ever finding love

Then I saw you and I knew I had to have more

 

No doubt, we knew each other before

Somehow we knew we'd know each other again

You taught me to trust my primitive instincts,

to learn my hertiage, be brave,

take pride in my ancestors as well as myself.

That success was not graded or scored

especially by money or things

Material things cannot save the day

Ah but family, friends, the ones who

truly care about the real you

they always come through

as you should for them

 

It is in love and respect

forgiving and sharing

for yourself as well as others

where the tender answer lies

and baring our souls is not a weakness

but a strength
