Only Human

Only Human

A Poem by luciddreamer

My little boy saw a homeless man

Laying upon the steps of the cathedral

No blanket, no pillow, no bed

Trying to sleep on the cold hard cement

My little boy asked after awhile

Why doesn't he have a blanket, a pillow, a bed...like me

I said I did not know,

But the world was a cold dark place, and,

maybe that is what we are suppose to do

Give our blankets

our pillows

our beds

As I tucked him into

his bed, with his blanket and his pillow

with a story and a kiss

He asked why didn't we just help the man

I said Son, you just don't understand.

And he cried for he was left

with the knowledge that his mother

Was only human

So painful but so true. Sometimes I wonder what is holding us back from doing more, because I think doing more is being only human too. This is a very powerful poem.

This is sad but very true...i second what Luqman said,Through a child's eyes nothing go's unnoticed! I see that in my daughters eyes and in her questions and statements...My heart grieves for the hopeless, the forgotten, for they too are someones child...We all need to do our own little parts to help make the world brighter...to help bring about unity and love,God Bless :)

This write, shows that through the eyes of a child nothing goes un-noticed. However, being only 'Human' place alot of 'Grown-ups' responsible for what is over looked and shunned. The child’s tears expressing sorrow for one being ‘Human’, strikes me as a lable of ‘irresponsible’. I like how you slapped me upside the head with this one. Terrific write!

the simplicity of reality through your poem tugs the heart string deeply for the child as for the mother ~

Simply sublime, it tells the truth that we are to afraid to say. It pulls at the heartstrings and we all become the little boy who wept.
