Fictional Love Part IIA Poem by Lucas JayThe night we built a giant
fort Out of childhood sheets In the living room of my
apartment Laid pillows and blankets on
the floor And spent the entire night
watching Horribly good movies like
Teen Witch And starship troopers, is the
night I knew you would be in my
life forever Of my life with you, because
lets Be honest, once you build a
fort Together you are forever
floating In the moat with that person
That night you made me pinky
swear I would never write a poem
about you Honey it’s been two years
these Words can no longer be locked In the dungeon of your
insecurity and doubt They need to breathe fresh
air Broadcast megaphone to the
world And I know a pinky swear Is the most sacred promise a
boy can make But you have made me a man And promises don’t carry over
We are not perfect the
arguments we have had Always end in me sleeping on
the couch Because somehow you are
always right And I am always horribly
wrong Maybe one day my need for
attention combined With your ability to flirt
with absolutely anyone Will melt the ice caps, the
sea levels will rise Flooding cities and we will
be responsible For the apocalypse, I’m
confusing as heaven And life with me is never
easy I’ll probably never had it
all figured out
When we traveled to my
hometown You watched memories of My brothers and I wrestling
in the living room When my mother pulled
pictures From the closet of me as a
child I could see the storm clouds Forming in your pupil I knew I was in love with you And wanted nothing more Than you beside me It doesn’t matter where we
live Because when I am with you I am home, if I had a nickel For every person that told me We would never last I would have jars full Enough to buy us that house With the picket fence And the children running Through the sprinkler
You are the best thing To happen to my life Since the day I was born Because you make me better Make me want to be better Make me want to do better But I would be lying if I
said We will be together till The end of days But we would be damned If we didn’t try Basically, what I want to ask
is Will you marry me? © 2012 Lucas Jay
