The Alpha and Omega

A poem about our relationship to God

He is the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end.
We are created in His image.
Sustained by love He sends.
His pain echoed through the ages
when He learned of man's first sin.
Yet, that same heart is joyfully mended, when a soul returns to Him.
He calls us to a perfection
that He knows we can not make.
But because we keep striving,
He gives a promise He'll not forsake.
To love us with great passion,
to count our every hair.
To always keep us in His sight,
to shoulder all our cares.
He will root for our happiness,
He will support our every dream,
He will subsume every nightmare
and He will quiet every scream.
And in return He longs for
a mutual love affair;
where warmth and open sharing
replaces cold and empty prayer.

He respects the free will He's given us,
Will never force us to comply.
Nor will He give up on us
or His dream to unify.
So, we must prepare ourselves
to be followed, pursued, harassed;.
for God's love will always chase us
with great longing unsurpassed.
