Words Spelled in Red

Words Spelled in Red

A Poem by Lionel Braud

There is always some critic behind the curtain
Whispering the end of all good things
He prides himself behind thick paned windows
And exclaims, “I’ve seen that motif before”
Opinions written in black and white font
And punctuated with sarcastic smiley faces

Anonymous A*****e, lost in infinite space
His rants echo inside his head,
He purges himself in the internet wasteland
“It’s the final frontier” he exclaims
In weighted prose
Spoken with a sharp tongue

Print this time is incidental
Emotive tugs require no articulation
To keep the zombie horde at bay
Unless words have teeth,
Speech goes down with the blade,
Expressions spelled in Red

There is so much truth here and I think any writer who reads can relate. When I was in a critique group that met in person I received constructive criticism and loved it. Coming online was an eye-opener because while there are people who offer constructive critiques, there are those "anonymous a******s" who seem to take delight in tearing others down. Every writer's site has them and it's an ugly thing to have to endure. I guess the lesson to be learned from dealing with those types is not to give power or credence to their words. If there is anything helpful in what they say, use it, if not, dismiss it and move on. Good rant, btw.

Ah yes, those who can't, critique.

Those who shouldn't, write. Many shouldn't and we all know it's true. Maybe even me. :-)

It is easier than ever with all these cyber critics to say what you want and say it in an inflammatory and demeaning way. Then add one of these:

or these:

:-(

Here's a new one to all the cyber critics:
