Drunk

Drunk

A Poem by Lionel Braud

Drunk

I think it is better this way,
Feeding on sleep
And the nuances of the dead,
Besides I dream with them.

On the slippery floor,
I meant to do that
Because I am a poet.

When they are asleep,
I do dream of them.

It’s different when somebody else does it.
They slumber and go to sleep,
When I slumber,
Liquid ale somber soles feet.

Excellent. The last line just bounces around inside the brain for a bit. Nice one.

This is almost like something Poe or Browning might have written -

"I think it is better this way,
Feeding on sleep
And the nuances of the dead,
Besides I dream with them."

Such a wonderful way to set the tone of this piece and grab your reader's attention.

And a perfect ending that remains with your lingering. I love the abstract statement at the end...that conjure up some fascinating imagery and ideas.

"It's different when somebody else does it.
They slumber and go to sleep,
When I slumber,
Liquid ale somber soles feet."
