Ode to Hunter S ThompsonA Poem by Lionel Brauddedicated to hunter s thompson
If I would have able been to show you something different,
Mr. Rainbow friend,
Mr. Game show host
And the sweet to the line
Of the body politic,
I would have a birthday party
And invite everybody
Including the land of the weird,
The Spaghetti Highways
And breakfast buffets
The Texas burrito
And the Louisiana back roads,
This is where I am from,”
Dark knight hero of Journalism
Where the LA scenes are strobe lights,
And every part of greenery
Has that urban plantation
Full of go-getters and pink flamencos,
But the movement in the head
Is a radio with new Stations
And the headlines red
And deep soul bodies
Make love in the twilight.
I was hung that night,
On a quart of tequila
And an orange sunrise
Drifting to the hotel,
I came across the formulaic,
The Devil Dealers and the Car salesmen
Meticulous with numbers and the cash pay hey day,
The person behind the stand
Asked for I.D.
The clerk had a face like a strict librarian
And a high school cook,
They exchanged strange mutated misnomers
And that was it.
I was in my room
Pretended to be Dr. Gonzo in black and
White/ It was sold to the lowest bidder in this
Auction of mayhem,
Bidding my sanity for a press release
On the derby race,
In the Land of the reptiles,
The mutinous, monstrosities don’t fair well,
It is gift as well as a curse,
Nothing is straight- forward in the land of the free,
You just bought yourself a ticket
To Laslow’s Masquerade show
My lawyer, the in-breed, I knew his tie was on too tight!
If I were you I would have rid of myself these mutants…yet
You would have destroyed a part of yourself in the process.
