Single Sock and Single Glove

Single Sock and Single Glove

A Poem by Louisa Chan
"

a poem about single people

"

Single sock and single glove

In a corner no one touch

Seeking attention if not love

In a closet once open now shut

Single sock and single glove

Time passage softens their touch

In good patience they await

Chance of receiving a mate

Single sock and single glove

Praying hard for extra luck

To stay well ‘n’ forever young

In the absence of the sun

Single sock and single glove

In a corner no one touch

They are decent; they are fine

If only love could treat them kind

This one seems to reflect the situation of many, especially in this time of social isolation. Perhaps that is the reason why the once open closet is now shut. The poem points out their patience, but also their fears. Time is passing, and though they may not admit to it, there is the fear of remaining loveless.

I think this poem was fun and poignant. I like assigning inanimate objects power they can't possess. Emotion they can't have. It's what poetry is all about. Let 'em out of the closet please!
