fifth in a series

Hey…it’s your ride
get your battles won, lay them in the yard
your garden grows, only the dirt knows
you found your man, smoking on the mower
a puff of a person; all it takes is one blow

It’s so “to die for”, you just might die for it
a cigarette, an empty beer bottle, a friend
they have gone… finding themselves dead before their time
and I have nothing that will show I ever knew them
or that they ever were… I’m so sorry, I’m a liar for the worst reasons

The world lays back and pours and pours and pours

So, fix the destination
babies free can be lovers now
we will miss them, but in time we will
get used to the idea of quiet places
we could ride…

Let’s all agree on what you see
Yeah, you were right about me;
Can I get myself out from underneath
or else this guilt will crush me;
And in the meanwhile, let’s keep
secrets to the side, our sides to the open;

I tried to kill myself just once--I swear
looking in the mirror, I say:

“You got me one time, but never again…”

I love you so much
do me a favor, baby
don’t reply--
because I can dish it out, but I can’t take it

I can't take it when you're smiling

(is it just a phase?)

Hey...it's my time

time to grow, time to die

It's my own life

but only after the fact

And I still can't take it if I'm smiling...

Author's Note

This is the fifth in a series of poems that are inspired by the album "The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me", by Brand New. It is one of my favorites, and it has a lot of personal worth to me. That album has helped me get through so much. These obviously pale in comparison, but they are meant as just a way to express myself and to be inspired by the music. I hope you all adore them!
