Go Ask Alice

Go Ask Alice

A Poem by love, lorey

Chasing the rabbit, he said with a laugh,
It isn't quite the fairy-tale.
I shrugged, and grinned and
swallowed it whole.
Greedy, hungry youth.

I cartwheeled through the tumblers
of every locked thought,
twisting kaleidoscope skies.
Tasting music and dancing
in the aftermath of euphoria.
Wicked, wonder-filled youth.

You taste of heaven! I screamed
at the world.
Before it turned to hell.

Chaotic bits of history
and hate,
slapped around my innocence and dreams.
I told myself,
The tiger's might is empty!
But I felt the drug peel my skin
away from my soul
and I knew that I lied.

Desperate, ragged youth.

This is one of the nicest things I've read on here -- I've read some awfully simpering stuff. This stands out a million times - the imagery, the broadening parallel between beautiful and clichéd, so often abused in the most mediocre of poet's work, has been achieved so wonderfully here. I wish I could compliment you as eloquently as you write -- that last line, particularly, hit home. Wow, though. It must be quite the achievement to be as wonderfully wondrous as your gift. Needless to say, I loved it.

The things we choose to believe as children often seem ridiculous in hindsight...."desperate ragged youth" we latch on to friends, customs, clothing that we believe will make us popular or noticed by the "right" people. I loved the imagery in this write. "twisting kaleidoscope skies" great image here. A very emotive and unique write. Good one. Lydi**

It's a dance with my memory ;) Thanks. :)
Desperate, ragged youth. I think back to some of the things I'd done in my formative years, the mindset of my decisions at the time. I miss that. Everything was the most important thing there had ever been. I can't regret a moment of it.

I agree. Not a moment regrettable. Every bad decision worth it's weight, as they say.
