I still feel an old love for them...

But with each passing day, instability I dread less

I wonder if he saw in my eyes

One of all the loves that still lingers

By now I know where to find a story's end

I've searched here, but it's been impossible to find

I will see you again

And my chest will crumble under the grief

Of each weightless possibility I lost with you

I will still see the beauty in you

The splendor I saw when I first met you

I may pretend you've only scratched my surface

Just so I can muster a sad smile

And you'll know I haven't let go of the thought of you

And hopefully you'll know the price I paid for my peace

And how life will only get tougher for people like us from this point forward

And how I wish we had been much simpler than we were

And how I wish I'd never taken you for granted, even though I only did so once or twice

I will see you again

And I will wish I never loved you as much as I did…

Author's Note

I can finally see the end to our story... I wrote this a month ago before I had any form of closure to hold on to. Now I know for sure this person *actually* wants nothing to with me, despite having said they wanted to be my friend.

I knew friendships after breakups are kind of a rare thing, but I guess I held onto hope longer than I should have!

Any suggestions are welcome, I hope you enjoy reading me. :)

Oh god, friendship breakups are so traumatizing. I love this. Also wanted to add that I absolutely adored these lines:

Such a beautiful way of describing that feeling that comes with seeing someone who haven't fully healed from.

Also, would you provide some clarification on the last three lines? I feel like the sentence structure could be rephrased to give a bit more of a clear ending reiteration. Great work!

Sure! The subject of the poem is an ex partner. We'd done the whole "let's be friends after we break up" but it just didn't work out. After that I thought I would have rather not loved them romantically in order to be able to love them platonically. I hope this makes sense! Again, thanks for reading and leaving a review. :)
