leave me

You are like a piece of gum

That someone spit out 

Onto the ground 

I am the poor soul

Who accidentally 

happened to step on you

Ever since you have never left me

You are attached to the bottom of my shoe 

Even if I scrub and scratch you away

There are still

Bits of you

All around

This reminds me of when I was seven years old at summer camp. They had a contest to see who could chew the most pieces of gum at the same time. Some really heavy kid won, I wondered what happened
to that giant wad. I found it in the doorway to my cabin when I squished it with my shoe. In my great insecurity as the "new kid," I believed for years they had set it there as a boobytrap to get ME.
Now, I can't remember what happened to that shoe.
