Do I Dare?

Do I dare speak

Within the silence that threatens to overcome?

Do I dare breathe the slightest breath

Within the mists of air that sweep through my being?

Do I dare see myself without you?

It’s a tragedy to think.

I believe this could be the end.

I believe this could be what we never wanted

Everything taken away…

To a place that we could never go

Wrapped in thin layers of the forgotten

When did we get here?

Do either of us know?

Do I dare let a tear escape

To wet this ice cold cheek?

Do I dare allow this heart to beat

Beneath this hollow exterior?

I think not.

Sigh. Relax. Eyes closed.

Run.
