An Apology

An Apology

A Poem by Andie
"

I wrote a short blog post called "Quotes and Things" that sort of explains how this idea came about. I hope this inspires you to forgive and (eventually) love yourself. Don't give up now.

"

The bruises on your hands and feet are her fault.

But the ones on your heart are mine.

I did not love you the way I was supposed to.

Instead of cradling you in my arms and keeping you safe,

I threw you away.

I let them use you, unaware of the death that would come.

It has taken me far too long to become your friend.

It has taken me too long to write this to you.

I should have said it before things got so bad.

This is my apology to myself.

This is what I wish I had said

Before I bashed my head against the walls,

Leaving rust along the railings and on the floor.

And now that the damage has been done,

I hope you can learn to forgive me

As I kneel next to you

And I hold your broken soul

The way I should have

A long time

Ago.

Side note: I wanted the lines at the end to seem a bit awkward and cut off, but still allow the work itself to be somewhat impactful. Did I accomplish this? Lemme know!
