the night you sold me your love two minutes before midnight.A Poem by lostnstarsafter Bright Eyes
quit waving at them, it's 11:58 and i guess
taxi cabs despise us, rushing home to their children with dreams they'll never pursue. i wish i could barter whiskey and wise sayings for their innocence and lack of sense in this city - where men are in and it's never a sin to cause a flame until sunlight burns their borrowed bodies. and when my eyes are turning black and you could see my ribs and spine, you'd still call me your skinny beauty queen. and when you're lonely and out of paper to write poetry, you could always use my skin. and i know i have a heavy heart, you don't have to carry anything, just kiss it better and i'll accept defeat when it falls down on me the next morning. and i know tonight's the only night you'd sell your love so i'll give you anything you want just for us to live as husband and wife for the night. and after reliving our wedding vows in an empty subway, we could share your flask on the train and i promise to stay conscious with a grip of your hand and a stolen glance every minute, two, and three. and i guess you're right. i guess we'll never have any reason to kiss each other another goodbye once you told me, "what is simple in the moonlight by the morning never is."
