Chapter 5A Chapter by Mariah Mcintyre"So, you like to draw?" He asked politely making convrsation. "Mhm, you were there earlier today when I was drawing right?" He seemed to chuckle at memory making feel the same embarressment again. "Yeah, sorry about that, we didn't mean to bother you." "It's fine." Things were quiet between us as we continued to walk along the dusty path, though it seemed as if it were getting more and more rugged. "Is it just me or does it seem like this isn't the way we came?" I asked. "Uh, I'm not sure, it doesn't seem too used." He replied now looking at the earth as weeds began to spring up in our way, the green grass peeking through the soil for fresh air. "Yeah, I wonder where it goes to." The two of us begin to walk faster curiously. "Looks like it open up ahead there." I said pointing down a few yards where another clearing seemed to be. When we walked through the opening we stared wide eyed at a huge wolf ahead f us. He was much larger than a regular dog and had long thick fur that stuck out at every angle. His yellow eyes were bowed down yet looking up at us, his ears pointed up, listening and still. Justin and I had stopped walking and wee standing completly frozen in our tracks, until finally I called out, "Hey puppy." In a cautious yet playful voice. After a moment too long the wolf raised his head and romped over happily wagging his tail. "Hey boy, what are you doing out here by yourself?" I asked with a ridiculous baby voice scratching his thick collar. "Do you know this thing?" Justin exclaimed. "No, do you?" I ask back. "Dude, this is so cool!" He says now petting the wolf now too, who seemed to be enjoying all the attention. "Totally. He must be a malamute husky mix." I stated remembering my mom saying she had once had one, probably not this large though. "I thought he was seriously going to attack us." "Yeah, I know right. And look at him, he's such a sweetheart." We both laughed as the dog rolled around in the dirt playfully. "We should try and take him back to camp." I say excitedly. "And do what with him? Keep him?" He giggled. "I wish, but no, just give him to that camp lady and she can try and find the owners." We walked back the trail we came the animal that turned out to be a puppy at heart, skipping along behind us. "Donny will never believe this." Justin says shakin his head. "Wolves are like his favorite animal in the world. We have to show him!" I had a bad feeling about that, since I especially was hoping this would be our little secret, but I agreed anyway. Why not? When we finally found our way back to camp the sun was beginning to set, the sky turning that beautiful orange yellow tint that reminded you of the hot season. The air was cold but the breeze was still warm and sunburned. Justin's friends were waiting at the camp for him and when they saw the gigantic dog trodding along with us they stared in disbelief. "Justin, where in the world did you get wolf?" One of the brunettes asked. "Yeah and where'd you get that fox?" Max added, Donny elbowing him as they laughed at their own joke, I couldn't help but smile. "Shut up you guys, that fox's name is Tayler." Chelsea said smiling back at me. "Hey," Was all I said when we reached the picnic table they sat on top of. The dog rudged my hand lovingly and sat beside me. "We were walking down this trail and then all of a sudden this wolf dog comes out of nowhere and stares us down until Tayler calls to it, and then he was all cool and came up to us. I swear it was amazing!" Justin told them as they stared fixed on the beast. "Were gonna take him to the office to find his owners." "Aw man, can't we keep him dad, can't we pleasssseee." Max pouted. I now noticed the girls weren't looking at the dog, but at me. Eyeing me up and down like some kind of dog myself. "Nah we really should try and return him. I wish I had him though too." I agreed. "Yeah, what if you lost your dog Max?" Chelsea shot. "Uh... I would hop he went to a loving home like us." The blondie grinned like a five year old. "No Max, say bye bye to the pretty dog, Daddy has to take him home now." Justin said baby like. "Lata Dawg." Max replied in a deep voice completly unrecognizable to the one he had a second ago. Justin and I turned and took the dog to the office where the took him gladly and we said our sad baby talk good byes. When we walked out, the sky was now dark and the stars were beginning to show above. The moon shined bright like the sun, only white and luminous. "It's so gorgeous here." I said appreciting the scene above us that glistened and glittered like nothing I've ever seen. "Yeah, that's why my friends and I always come here. Not so much for the camping but just for the scenery... well and to be unsupervised." He smirked looking to the sky. "Oh really?" I asked hoping he'd continue talking. "Yeah, we used to all go out, Max and Isabella, Donny and Michelle, Chelsea and I. But now weve all split up, minus Donny and Michelle. Their love is like forever." "Wow, what about Jaque?" I asked wondering where it is she came in. "Well she has always just been friend with Michelle, so she comes along with us." "Hm, what happened between all you guys to make you break up?" I dared to ask. "Well, Max and Isabella were really only in it for the sex, and that didn't work out when he wanted to do it ith other chicks, and as for me, well Chelsea and I both agreed we just didn't belong together. They were all short lived." I nodded thinking it all over and surprised they could all stay friends after being together like that. "What about you, who's in your life?" This was a difficult question for me to answer. Who was in my life? "I guess, the same people who came camping with me. Nobody." I grinned trying to make my situation humorous. "You have to have some friends or something?" He nudged. "I did, but like you and Chelsea, we just didn't belong together." The cickets sang in the mist of our silence. "I came here to get away from all the drama back home." "Whatever it is that happened with you and your friends, you can trust that you've got yourself a new one. One who will never create any drama in your life." He smiled comfortingly. "Thanks." But I wasn't so sure about that.
