I Am Not an Ocean

I Am Not an Ocean

A Poem by lostinthewaves
"

beauty is in oneself, not in metaphors

"
i am not an ocean
i am not a meadow or a mountain or a sunset
i am human

i may not be a summer storm but i can stand in the rain
laughing with a friend as big drops fall upon my sunburned face

i listen as cracks of thunder accompany the lightning dancing across my ceiling

i may not be a sunrise
but i can sit sleepy-eyed
watching across the lake in pink checkered pj's as the light illuminates the water

i can feel the peace of early morning as gentle pink fills my car on the way back home

i may not be a skyline or a garden or a forest

but i am a girl whose laughter fills empty spaces
who thinks dogs are the best thing that's ever happened to her
who wants everyone to know their worth

you & i are not rivers or canyons or warm summer days
but we were created by the same hand
masterpieces in our own right
powerful. beautiful. epic.
