Mind Games

Mind Games

A Poem by lostinthewaves
"

a little poem about social anxiety

"
I play with words,
but they always win,
to speak them out loud,
might be a sin.

actions and movements dance in my mind,
i'll just run it one more time
or two
perhaps I can mime?

you speak,
i wait for awhile
it's time for me to reply
but i only smile

i'm aware of the rumors
i know how they talk
i cant help but hear it
and some watch like a hawk

its simply impossible
quite a shame
to try to talk to others
when your mind plays a game

Mind games are more complex than champion chess! This is quite a literary way of explaining/describing social anxiety.

"actions and movements dance in my mind,
i'll just run it one more time
or two
perhaps I can mime?"

Playing out scenarios in our heads will silence the most innocent and benign responses.

Nicely penned.

My mother calls it "borrowing trouble". Methinks this explains it much better.

Great work! I really related to this! I think sometimes I have selective mutism and people always judge me for it. I love the line “I’m aware of the rumours...” This poem is all too true

"Oh no! I've said too much.". R.E.M. This isn't unusual thought, but it is not presented on TV commercials on the Life network. This presents human interaction as a board game, and as a seasoned sales person, I know it is.

I like this! Sums up the feeling of social anxiety and the wanting to but not being able to talk to others. Great work!
