Saving GraceA Poem by Archie LogsdonI have been writing a lot of songs lately... Here's a new one. It contains a Woody Guthrie reference, as many of them do.
I just came here to ask one question.
You don't have to answer right away. For many years I have been wanderin' Through the darkness of your day. I'm just an ordinary pilgrim Sitting by the side of your road. Like the trucks out on your highway, I'm bound to carry my own load. There's a light on the horizon And I can see it flickering today. But every time I think I'm getting closer It just seems to wink and fade away. Sometimes a man's just got to wonder What we're doing on this plane. What's the fundamental purpose Of this cruel and senseless game? I don't come to seek forgiveness That I would not return in kind. I'm not a beggar or a grifter, Or a thief that would rob you blind. I can't offer any wisdom That you don't hold within yourself. Well, it's time for me to go now And I sure do hope you wish me well. I'd like to thank you for your kindness And for listening to me ramble on. Perhaps one day we'll meet again And I'll play you another song. Like the trucks out on the highway We move on to another place. If we're really bound for glory We may find our saving grace.
