Fugitives

Fugitives

A Poem by R.L. Davenport

Fugitives

From the depths
Rises the Sun and light
Look into my soul child to find
Reasons to peer through the night

Just to resist
Everything about this
One candle in pure darkness
Persists when everything around you fails

Prevail when you feel the dreaded cold
And the world has turned its back
Which gave you every motivation to fight
To look inside

Past your pity and pride
Enemies turned to ego and died
It was something that you had to choose
To vie with fear

Dismissive scoffs and sneers
Something that you had to lose
Amongst dangerous manipulation
To a most hateful truth

Hallucinations to soothe
You do what you have to do
To maintain and remain the real you
Ascending beyond the fool

Earlier stages of life
When the world begged you to die
Resilient mind
Bathed in confusion

For only but a moment in time
Before we see clarity in their eyes
It's easy to despise ignorance
When you stand above it all

And fall to another plague
Narcissistic dreams
Of selfishness and fame
Denominations of idolatry, the falsity

It's all the same
