Enabler

Enabler

A Poem by Lorna Lee
"

For anyone that ever loved someone enough to enable them to continue a behavior that may not be in their best interest, because you can't stand seeing them suffer...

"

He begs, I give… it’s an endless dance
each time I do I take a chance

That what I give could be the last
and then my compassion becomes the past

I hate to see him in this pain
although I’m unable to sustain

From giving him what he feels he needs
even though in my heart I disagree.

Why can’t he see that this is wrong
that by denying it will make him strong

His destiny is in his control
he just needs to search his sole

Life is too precious to ignore
you just need to reach out and open that door.

If its pills that you seek to get you through
then the fate that awaits you, will be up to you

Let go of the substance and embrace the will
it’s stored deep inside and your soul it will fill

To help you get through all those times those are tough
and realize that we all possess just enough

To administer daily in doses complete
just enough to insure our well-being we meet.

So please let go of that medicinal stance
and embrace your spirit and take a chance.

So very full of truth and wisdom this ink is. Many people are let continue the path of destruction because in our own blind ways, our caring hurts them more than just letting go. But to let go, they need to see that they can stand on their own two feet without crutches, which is often the scariest moment in one's life.

Great Ink!

As Steel said, it is filled with reality. The effort, however, is nothing short of apathetic ineptitude. This has to be the worst poem I've read from you. Where is the passion that you once held? Not for the subject at hand, obviously, but for the art of poetry itself?

... Did I get your attention? ;)

You Did Damian, I revisited this post today because I am finally doing something about the situation.. read more

It is a tough word...enabler. What is one to do? To be the source of strength, beyond our own weaknesses...yes, we do try. But being witness to the struggles, the failures...a true battle of our own.

Worthy effort, filled with reality.

When we love someone it doesn't mean we have to love everything about them... it is just weighing the pros and cons in deciding if the relationship is right. Nicely written.
