A Special Life

A Special Life

A Poem by Lorna Lee

How tragic it is to lose someone you love,
to let go and then to let them move on.

The sands of time seep at a different pace;
so short for some and for others, too long.

It happens to those that have given their all
to an unforgiving life that takes and takes.

To fight helplessly until the very last breath,
leaving behind an unbearable ache.
Why not spare the good and the kind hearted souls
who have lived a life of giving and caring?

And instead take the cruel and thoughtless ones,
who know nothing of sacrifice, helping or sharing.

We'll miss you so much, more than words could express,
but you know that for you we'll be strong.
Because it's only your body, the vessel of life,
that has left us...but your spirit lives on.

Author's Note

Lorna Lee
I recently lost someone very special in my life and am struggling with the "letting go" part of grieving. It seems so unfair to me that someone who is so good and did nothing but give to others all his life had to suffer so greatly while those that have no concept of goodness are allowed to live on....

Sadly we of the living control not when the spector of death comes knocking on our door.
We left behind know so little of the world beyond that we can't fathom what to expect. Perhaps that's why we have faith and belief to guide us.
Loosing someone is always difficult to those left behind, we remember all the good times, and we wish that they could have always been.
Time seems to be the only thing that helps ease the feeling of loss and pain. We all grieve at a different pace and in different ways.
Don't let anyone rush you on that process. It is your's alone and is sacred to you.
You have my prayers
And know that you will always have friends and other family to lay your head down upon shoulders and cry.
Thanks for sharing Lorna, i know this couldn't have been easy to put to words.

Lorna I think this was beautiful, I think that many people feel this way when they lose someone very close to them. However you are right, there are very few in this world that are truly giving and selfless, those seem to be the people that are taken from us very early in life. The ones that we could learn the most from.

With every passing season i watch the stars twinkle their lights.

I believe that all who have passed have reached heavenward and found a star of their liking.
There they watch from above, always shining forth their love and courage to those still on the planet.

May your favorite stars shine brightly for you while working through this in your own way.

Beautifully writen.

It's shocking to have someone near you and then they are gone so fast. Your poem really shows the caring ways you have and all the love. You never have to let go. Keep their memories, set a place for them at the table. Who knows? Their spirit is alive and could be next to you now.
We know it's the good ones who are taken sometimes but their spirit lives on forever. Sickness and death have no hold on their flesh and who wouldn't want to be in heaven?
I'm sorry for your pain and God bless the family, the suffering is theirs and yours and that is the tragedy.
This is a beautiful tribute to him.

What an amazingly beautiful, wonderful tribute to a dear one gone from this world. Truly a skilled practitioner at work, yet more importantly a heart that gives in memory what so many fail to give in life.

You have provided a treasure trove of living lines and dedicated them to someone who lived them all.

Thank you sincerely for sharing,

Daniel

Letting go is an awful thing to go through, but something we must do in order to move on with our lives. It is especially tough losing someone that means so much but as long as they remain in our hearts and minds they still live on.

I'll miss him too, Sis.....very much. The people in life that you meet that are as kind and gentle as he was are very few and far between. I was happy to get to know him.

This is an excellent poem.

The "letting go" part doesn't ever truly happen in the grieving process. I'd like to find the idiot who started that awful rumor, shake his hand, and then give him a nice punch in the nose! We can't let go, no matter how hard we try. Once someone is in our hearts, they stay there ... forever. We can, however, come to the point where we can accept. Once you're there (don't rush the process; it may take some time) it's a lot easier to cope with the person's departure. I'm so very sorry for your loss, Lorna. I wish you and your sister the best, and my soul goes out to your family.

"Letting go" is hard and we don't know why god took them so soon. I am only 17 and it I have lost 20 people in my life, bacially at the same time. Nobody knows why good people have to suffer and why the cruel get to go on and live. It feels like your wole world is sinking.
I'm very sorry for your loss, I hope that it will get easier for you as time goes on. They are still here in spirit
