Light

Light

A Poem by Lorenzo Giardano

I hear the crinkling of fallen leaves,
and wind, flowing through the branches.
The light, fading as dusk draws near,
and the shadows, growing stronger.
The path ahead blends with the darkness,
and my sense of direction becomes obsolete.
Soon, I will lose my way,
and I will be lost forever.
I can not go on in my current state,
or I will be erased from existence.
So I will simply stay here,
until the light of day.
But light, what I used to embrace,
will only answer to sin and hate.
Why? I haven't a clue,
or, an ounce of hope.
It seems I will be staying here awhile,
waiting for light to shine on me,
but I have journeyed too far,
and nothing can save me.
Though looking back at my past,
I realize that the light I knew
was not a ray of hope for me,
but only, a form of lies.

So why should I wait for light,
when I can travel in secrecy?
No one will ever find me,
and I can feel, free.
So again, I hear crinkling leaves,
and wind flowing through the branches,
but now, it is dark, and I am content,
for the light will never find me.
