A few days back I happened to spot a squirrel clutching a dried brown heart shaped leaf in its tiny hands and eating away on its edges. It was one of the most perfect beautiful moments I have ever seen. In a distance from me. And I knew if I tried to reach out and touch it I would ruin that moment of perfection. So I just stood there and watched feeling blessed to be a part of that shared moment in life. CLE

As I have often expressed I dislike end rhyme and structure unless masterfully done—and I always like your work, CLE.
You most always create rhyme within syntax that is natural sounding and therefore like a cherry or whipped cream on a piece of cake.

I've only really started writing poetry since I became an active member here at the Cafe. Almost all my past writing was in short story genre. I just felt more comfortable writing tales of morality and deeply wise messages. This website made me evolve as a writer. Try something new and out of my comfort zone. To be perfectly honest I never thought much about poetry or its significance in the writing genre. But as I read the many artists here in this community I became inspired and wanted to try something that still is unfamiliar to me as a creative. I feel I gravitate to ryhme because of it beauty and challenge in both message and conceptual idea. I'm slowly learning the many other forms of poetry in my evolution as a poet. Even at 57 I'm never too old to learn something new, and profoundly beautiful as this art form is to me. In some ways I still have my training wheels on as I navigate these long prodigious roads in creativity and artistry. These past couple of years have been a journey for me as I work on my voice and aspirations as a poet. As I continue to challenge myself I am hopeful to touch upon other forms of poetry. I used to think I endeavored to write the perfect poem, but as I'm evolving in my art I am sensing I want to write the perfect me. Thank you my friend for sharing your thoughts with me. They help me grow as a poet.

There are times I feel unsure about the quality of my work because of my learning process into poetry writing. I've always been effusive and descriptive in my prose and thought poetry would constrict and restrict that aspect of my ability in writing. Instead I'm learning a new type of freedom. One I did not think possible at my age. But I value it so very much because it's giving me more expressive freedom and enlightenment both in mind and heart. To know that I'm not alone on that path and that my peers whose art I admire travel similar roads helps me press ever forward. Thank you my friend for your kind words. I truly appreciate it. CLE
Sometimes the most ephemeral moments are the most beautiful. Perhaps that very ephemerality is what makes them so attractive, like the leaf you mention here. Rainbows don't last long either, but God, they are inspiring to view. Perhaps if we were more mindful, we might become aware of more of these jewels.

We believe that another moment like that will come along again. Which is not always the case because we are on a clock that ticks closer towards our inevitable end. I'm always reminded of my best friend in 3rd grade who was killed after being run over my a drunk driver while on summer break. In the entirety and scheme of the universe we live briefly. Much like these moments I describe. They echo us. Thank you so much my friend for sharing your thoughts with me.
It is a blessing to be so attuned to nature that we are able to live some very special moments because of her beauty. Your post examines that beauty and shares it with the reader. Thank you! ~Sharon

I often feel we don't live in the moment because we take for granted its abundance not realizing it is finite. Life is limited in breath and time. Our place in the world has an expiration date on it. Nature teaches us to live spiritually beyond self within the beauty that surrounds us. That even in the most fleeting moments there is eternal love. Thank you so very much again my poet friend. CLE
Truly a beautiful piece. "Yet its beauty often resonates in brevity of its life
It shimmers almost endlessly before it fades from sight" Is my favorite part of your writing here. Keep up the beautiful work :)

That line also hits me pretty strongly as well. As I mentioned to someone else I'm reminded of one of my favorite songs ever called Dust in the Wind. Especially the lyric that goes, "I close my eyes, only for a moment and the moments gone. " Those beautiful words to that song haunt me because of their wisdom and indelible perpetual truth to the nature of life. Living in the moment before it's gone. Often we don't take in these fleeting beautiful moments in life we are given. We tend to falsely believe there will be more, but they are finite. Limited as is our breath and time in this world. Thank you so much again for sharing your thoughts with me. CLE
the picture of the drop in the puddle really gets me.
you know what's funny? right under your poem, i saw an ad for a company that lets you engrave your name and the names of your best friends on a necklace. it's the human drive to make something that we think is permanent, and that stems from the knowledge, and the fear, that nothing is. is a moment less holy because it passes? is a friendship less real? this reminded me that it's okay to be a drop in a puddle, because everything is. that a thing can be just as beautiful for a moment or a lifetime (which are really the same thing)

I could not have said it any better than that. We are the accumulation and remnants of these little beautiful moments in life. That pass before our eyes in seconds but stay eternally in our hearts. We are the drop of rain in a puddle. It reminds me of the lyrics of one of my favorite songs ever "Dust in the wind". Where it says, "I close my eyes, only for a moment and the moments gone." Thank you so much for sharing your kind words with me on this poem. I really appreciate it.

Many poets try to glorify small moments of beauty in nature, few do it as well as you've done it here. Your juxtaposition of "brevity" and "endlessly" is beautiful, all-encompassing, and quietly powerful. I'm delighted to read more of your writing.

I really appreciate it and find your thoughts encouraging. Such small moments as these described in this work illustrate the power of love and its resonance. We can often at times gloss over their simplicity at the time while being overcome by their eternal beauty. Your keen eye captures exactly the heart of the message this poem seeks to reveal. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me. CLE
If I can say something worth saying that makes just one person think about others...I'll try. The greatest storyteller was my grandmother. I miss her stories. Also, I would like to add to please pay.. more..
