A Fragile Glass heart

Love is a gift we often break

Purposefully, or by mistake

Our intentions are often clouded

Is this the one, or am I broken hearted

Should I settle for something less

or am I deserving of the best

Is this something just to get me by

A shoulder needed when I cry

But intentions often vacillate 

Between moods of doubt we propagate 

The line of romance we blur

When selfishness and envy occur 

So fragile, yet strong the heart may be

When it yearns for love and company 

But know as true as your own

A restless heart is always alone 

Author's Note

"You love me." My muse Cate said with a tinge of self assured arrogance. "What do you mean? I've never even said that word to you." I replied defiant, yet perturbed. "I can tell. It's written all over your face." She said in breathy voice akin to a film starlet back in the 40s. "Lies..." I countered as I ran to the bathroom to see for myself. And what I saw was one confused looking old man staring back in the mirror at me. Nothing defines love more than that look. Feel free to comment, troll, or leave best wishes. I totally agree with your wise words, Temp. Like the saying goes sometimes you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet. I would like to believe not all of us like to do the breaking intentionally. But in life you live and learn...that karma is indeed a bit...well, a*****e. When it comes to love we are constantly evolving and growing no matter what age. We still learn something profound about this ethereal emotion. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this piece.

So very true, though I do feel a bit guilty for the tears. I wish breakups could be like running into a field of butterflies with a warm breeze cascading through long golden locks of hair. And a symphony concerto playing in the background a joyous song. Instead of feeling like a half raw cooked burger at McDonald's that gives a bad bout of heartburn, as well as terrible constipation. I want the fairytale but I'll settle for the happy meal. Hehehe.

LOL! My heart has been broken many times and I still come back for more bc the feeling of love/being loved is one of the greatest feelings of all. But....the happy meal isn't a bad substitute...haha!
