Above the Spires of this citadel 

Arise my spirit; on winds that blow

I cast my fate to fruitious favor 

Climb the heights on wings of labor 

I know not where my journey ends

Or destined love of heart portends

I'll sail upon this tender breeze

In hopes that affection comforts me 

Tempted within this asperous world

I'm moved by faith on wings unfurled 

In this place where dreams made of

To reach and touch this greater love

So do not weep in tears of sorrow 

We'll meet again; someday, tomorrow  

Where hope springs eternal to every eye

And where restless hearts forever fly

Author's Note

...For Kahlil Gibran; who gave me the lessons that a father gives to son. Never truly having one in my life I am inspired to be a better human being because of his words. Within each and everyone of us resides compassionate qualities of our better humanity. But in order to reach these hidden virtues of treasured love one must be willing to open up their heart willingly. Do not let hate and anger define who you are. Let love be the key to your freedom.

Thank you Fran for your sweet comment. I was swept away by his masterpiece "The Prophet". Had I read his book when I was younger instead of 56 I feel it would have changed the direction of my life in many different ways. But despite my older age it still has an impact upon me. It makes me strive to want to be better and love this world more. I'm also more appreciative of the creativity I have and how it enables me to try to use it for a more positive influence. If I could help or make a difference in one person's perspective in life then there is no greater tribute to Gibran than that. Thank you so much again Fran.

But I feel that he would rather not have us write like him but live with love like him. And in doing so inspire the world to be better, as well as love greater. Thank you Ama for such kind words. I really appreciate what you have said and I totally agree with you. It is sad there is so much hate in the world and less positive goodness. It is easy for people to hate because it doesn't require anything at all, but love asks you to give from the heart and open yourself to the world. It is a small sacrifice that gives so much in return. I like to think in those little pieces of love that is where the best poetry is born. Thank you again.

Thank you Chris for you sweet comment. These past couple of years have been difficult for us all in this world. With so much strain and stress of life. Turning 56 was difficult and only compounded by these rough times. Reading Gibran's masterpiece, The Prophet, really put things in perspective for me. We are all in our own personal spiritual journey. No matter the age we constantly evolve and mature within as human beings. As I mentioned to Jacob in the comment below, I have resigned to the fact I will never capture love in words, nor are we ever meant to. Because love can only be lived. So I will continue to express my adoration for this most precious human emotion, while trying my best to live it. And I will leave all this meaningless baggage behind. Thank you sincerely for your words Chris. I appreciate them.

Thank you J for sharing your thoughts with me on this poem I appreciate it. I feel that art at its most powerfully evocative point comes when we ascribe the nature of love within humanity. It is a many layered fabric vibrant in color and virtue. It is the perfect song in symphony and chorus. At times we strive in art to give depth, emotion, and understanding to it. Seldom in life do we truly touch it and are touched by it in return. It is the perfect moment of brevity that is limitless in nature, yet fleeting in nature and so very ephemeral. I'm resigned to the fact I will never truly capture it in words because I know we are not meant to. It must be only lived. Thank you again my friend for your comment on this poem.

Thank you Ken for your thoughts on this poem I really appreciate it. Gibran's the Prophet is a masterpiece and I feel a bit ashamed it took me until age 55 to read it. Throughout the years I have had many recommend the book to me. It wasn't until last year I gave it a read. Very few pieces of art have ever made my soul feel so uplifted than that book. It is a mesmerizing piece of literature. I drew comfort from it during these difficult times. And they were words I needed to hear at this point of my life. Thank you again I sincerely appreciate it.
