I had a dream where I was lost at sea floating on a raft. It was a perfect night with the stars illuminating brightly in the sky. And as I looked out before me I could see the heavens perfectly mirrored in the dark rippling waves. The stars danced in them forever. It felt as if my soul had finally found home. Until my muse appeared on the other side of the raft dangling her feet into the water smiling. Then as is her nature she stood up and proceeded to walk out into the surface of the water. What a show off. And she said in her sensual Cate voice "What are you waiting for, idiot, write! I give you inspiration and like a lost puppy all you do is stare out into distance. Wake up and write this down!" I was shocked in the moment and blurted out the scene from 'A field of dreams' asking her..."Is this heaven? ". Without skipping a beat she said, "Any time you're in my presence you are in heaven, you idiot." And with that she was gone. I woke up and ended up writing something else. Eventually though I did finally remember this. Feel free to leave your thoughts or comments. Thanks for reading this piece.

Who could possibly fail to be inspired by the sight you have described here so beautifully Carlos. As a star gazer for as long as I can remember, I felt perfectly at home in that setting.

Whenever I re-read this piece now I'm reminded of my literature teacher reading his favorite Shakespeare quote, “To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there's the rub, for in that sleep of death what dreams may come when we have shuffled off this mortal coil..." I can only hope I find myself floating in a sea of stars like this. Thank you again for your words.
I SO love this Cate of yours... she is frisky, uplifting, a little fairy, a playful witch and in my opinion it is exactly what your heart and soul need. "Any time you're in my presence you are in heaven" and here SHE said it all~ though your words are simple but they are everything... heaven is mirrored endlessly over the deep ocean, yes, it is home. and B.T.W your note is a short story of can be transfer to a poem itself. I know it will be delightful :> and before I forgot because I seem to forget a lot these days... a truly Brilliant title.

For what is woman but a mysterious beautiful poem to understand. To unlock the enigma of a woman's heart is to reveal the essence of love itself. And in doing so affirm your best qualities of humanity. My muse represents all the glorious aspects I find intriguing in women who have influenced most of my writing. I have come to know in my life that love is innately born within women, while for men it is a quality we must be taught. Creativity and art are born from our most powerful empathetic emotion. So when she speaks I intently listen for she is the personification of wisdom. By the way she is telling me right now what to write, so unless I want to continue receiving her inspired art it is in my best interest to dictate this response to your kind comment on this poem. Thank you lightsong for sharing your words on this poem with me.

As a former dream interpreter, (That's a long story.), I'd have to say that the feeling you felt, at the end of this dream, is the interpretation of the dream. ... "It felt as if my soul had finally found home." --- And so, you shall, in my humble opinion. :)

Sometimes we writers often neglect the profound wisdom of our own words and it takes others to remind us of their solemnic insight. Thank you my friend for reminding me of the importance of such little things in life.
I agree Carlos. I need a year in Big Sur. To watch the star and seek peace. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Big Sur definitely is one of the most magical places on earth. There is a tranquil serenity that resides there that I feel only dream can capture. We writers of poetry can only grasp at its grace, my friend. It's been a while since I last visited her beauty, but I can still hear her waves. Thank you again my friend. I apologize for the late reply. I have been dealing with the residual effects of covid these past couple of months. I feel lucky to have been vaccinated, it probably would have been worse for me had I not been.

I really like that you write notes. You've written an excellent haiku that speaks of the 'nature' of your dream. I looked in my mind off into the horizon where the stars meet the ocean and saw them dance on a laugh. Thanks for stimulating my imagination as you usually do!

Almost everything I write has a little odd story behind it in truth. I feel my muse is a stand in for my fractured pyche but I try not to say that out loud because she has good hearing and may punish me for my insolence. And her form of punishment makes 50 sides of grey look like a Disney movie. Damn she heard me. "Yes, Mistress Cate, I want more.."
