Winter's Embrace

I wonder as the world melts 

Against the window on the wall

The curtains draped bell shaped 

Like a theater stage revealing a play

These opaque reflections haunt me

Dreary dreams of monotonous calm

Moments grey in numbing slumber 

time moving arduous through nature's woe 

Making me appear ghostlike inside her

A residual memory of existence 

Her aqueous scent conjures indolence 

Weighing heavy upon my tired soul 

I purse my lips against the glass to kiss her

We meet within this dissonant twine

Her touch reminds me that I'm alive 

While she appears, frigid, melancholic, diffident

She has stolen my serendipitous smiles

Yet enamored by her in all these raindrops 

I will chance my last breath to hold her

Once more in winter's embrace

Each stanza reads like part of a new poem, since your writing is so rich. It seems like you were trying to accomplish many poems in a single sitting; daunting task.

Thank you Ada for your thoughts on this poem. I truly appreciate it. My intent was to try and give semblance to a portion of nature that fills the mind with frigid wonder. To portray her as an image just out of reach, elusive, yet visibly tangible in her rain. You are absolutely correct that it is a daunting task to attempt but if I could just make one person feel the love I have for rain then I will be satisfied with that hopeful result. Winter has always encompassed the idea of a sorrowful love in ephemerality. One that momentarily returns every time at this point of the year. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me on this work.

A strange work... Reminds me slightly of Ranier Maria Rilke, a German poet from oh, well before I was born.
Comparing winter to a frigid woman, one cold to life and love, might have been his idea. Also reminds me somewhat if stream of consciousness material or beat poetry. Both spawned the coffee house poetry still written and read today.
But I ramble. Nicely written. Thank you for posting.

You actually have figured out the intent this piece was written from. Trying to give semblance to winter as a lover just out of reach. Cold frigid yearning to embrace its elusive nature. The allurement of its intangible visage. That can only be tasted in drops of rain. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this piece I really appreciate it. I'm not a winter person myself. All I want to do when the days turn cold is sleep! Men can't hibernate, more's the pity. Ever hear the story of the snow queen by Hans Christian Anderson? To me, that's winter. A woman who abducts children and freezes hearts. Well, nicely written anyway. Thanks again for posting.

Happy New Year Patricia and thank you for your thoughts on this piece. This was an enjoyable write because of the metaphors and word pairings. I wanted to give a some what semblance to winter as a lover just out of reach. Attempting to hold her in cold embrace. I wrote this about a year back and wanted to work more on it. Perhaps later down the line I may return to it. Thank you kindly again.
