Winter's Embrace

By

Carlos Lorenzo Estrada

I wonder as the world melts
Against the window on the wall

The curtains draped bell shaped
Like a theater stage revealing a play

These opaque reflections haunt me
Dreary dreams of monotonous calm

Moments grey in numbing slumber
time moving arduous through nature's woe

Making me appear ghostlike inside her
A residual memory of existence

Her aqueous scent conjures indolence
Weighing heavy upon my tired soul

I purse my lips against the glass to kiss her
We meet within this dissonant twine

Her touch reminds me that I'm alive
While she appears, frigid, melancholic, diffident

She has stolen my serendipitous smiles
Yet enamored by her in all these raindrops

I will chance my last breath to hold her
Once more in winter's embrace

Love this Carlos..
Can not say which line I like better...
They all flow majestically.. one line to the next.
Winter cold is never wonderful.
The line beginning with the words Moments grey..are so wonderful..
From your first line I was pulled in..
I do not like it to be so cold and lucky for me have always lived where the sun usually shines.

Well, old Mother N. can appear frigid and diffident, but that's winter for you. Wait until February, the dead of winter, when the gloom has held sway for two months. When I was a crisis counselor, my unit got more calls in that short month than any other month, with the exception of August, when the uncomfortable dog days have been in charge for an extended period. It's just Mother N.'s way of telling us, "Stiff upper lip, suckers!"

If I could find a way to put winter into word, it would just be all of what you wrote. ‘Moments grey in numbing slumber’. I had no idea it was possible to describe winter so perfectly and realistically. The writing is so strong and not only does it just read as winter poem, but a sort of poem about the coldness of another individual, which is just another layer you added. All of your poems have such depth to them, but I was impressed by this one, still! Thank you for sharing.

Quite the deep write here... The careful use of literary devices - not in excess - it gives a sense of introverted seduction whitin the inner depth of one's soul... There are layesrs to cut through in this poem, from the surface , barely sensing it, to the actual "kiss" - a comtemplation of a hidden emotion. A very well composed piece of poetry that feeds ones imagination beyond the norm.. A great read and share indeed... Thank you for this opportunity...
