Breaking Childhood Myths

Breaking Childhood Myths

A Poem by Carlos Lorenzo Estrada
"

The moment I found out the Tooth Fairy didn't exist and I had a handful of teeth to prove it. This senryu was sad to write so feel free to laugh all you want. I'm just sick that way.

“Adults are just outdated children.” - Dr. Seuss

There's no tooth fairy.

Pulled out my teeth for nothing.

Damn you, Santa Claus!

I hope I didn't ruin anyone's belief in these things we believed as very young children. I do have a hopeful story though. I threw a painted egg against the wall and a rabbit fell out of it to the ground. Then hopped away pissed at me, while giving the evil eye. Feel free to comment or share a past belief.

I too believed in my childhood that there was a tooth fairy to replace it with a new gift. Alas, that myth busted... And also those hopeful days. Without myths life is so boring... Thank you so much for this beautiful read

The tooth fairy and Santa Claus....two more roles parents must play. Nope, they do not exist. A bit of a fractured fairy tale here. Unique! Lydi**

Geez thanks Carlos.

I am 71 years old, and up until I read this poem, I believed in both Santa and the tooth fairy....
now your next poem will tell me there is no Easter Bunny?

We thought it was a big deal to get a quarter from the tooth fairy, but these days they must leave five dollars...inflation even with our myths.

I didn't ruin anyone's belief Carlos, but I did have to explain to Robbie when he was age 6 why the tooth fairy had forgotten to pay him a visit. Did I feel guilty? Yes I did and the tooth fairy the following night left double for her trouble. Thank you for letting me share and for making me relive that guilt :)) it is so sad when the tooth fairy and Father Christmas are no longer part of the equation. We all have to grow up sadly.
