Breaking Childhood Myths
A Poem by Carlos Lorenzo Estrada
The moment I found out the Tooth Fairy didn't exist and I had a handful of teeth to prove it. This senryu was sad to write so feel free to laugh all you want. I'm just sick that way.

“Adults are just outdated children.” - Dr. Seuss
There's no tooth fairy.
Pulled out my teeth for nothing.
Damn you, Santa Claus!

I hope I didn't ruin anyone's belief in these things we believed as very young children. I do have a hopeful story though. I threw a painted egg against the wall and a rabbit fell out of it to the ground. Then hopped away pissed at me, while giving the evil eye. Feel free to comment or share a past belief.

It wasn't till 8 yrs old I started to suspect the truth. Santa is actually an international spy seeking eventual world domination. You heard it here first, before Q anon reveals the truth haha jk. Thank you kindly for the comment.

It's just a trick to convince you of the improbable benefits of capitalism by your corporate masters when in reality the game is rigged to their benefits. Free yourself young padawan for the force is strong. Oh wait wrong movie. Take the red pill and free yourself from the matrix hahaha. In other words get out of Florida it's such a cesspool of corruption like California hahaha. JK...or am I? (Pointing two fingers at my eyes then at you) hehehe

I was the same way growing up and believing many of these myths. Once I started to find out the truth was when I began my move towards adulthood. Wished I could have stayed a child a while longer. Thank you again for stopping by and sharing your words.

Said he needed the quick cash and couldn't wait for the tooth fairy. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this senryu poem. I want to say I was about 8 or 9 when I stopped believing in Santa Claus. The year me and my brothers didn't get any presents. And I was a good kid that year. Unfortunately I didn't realize that being poor meant no gifts for Christmas. So the following year I became a James Dean rebel without a cause or clue. I got a present then but was way too cool to believe in Santa anymore. Thank you, Lydia, for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it.

At least I hope it produced a giggle or nodding smile. If not I better practice on my sense of humor which isn't going to be easy since I'm 55 and as cantankerous an old cuss as they get. My comedic mindset lean toward my heroes such as George Carlin and Richard Pryor. They both can sure tell funny stories and I envy those who can be funny. I'm the kind of person who ruins the punchline of a joke before getting to the end of it. And before I let you go I just need to ask: what is with the picture of the cow thumb nail above your name. You are such an artist I would think it would be the face of some prolific writer or an image of some great countryside vista or monument. That cow always makes me laugh it's like she is looking at me and passing judgment on things she shouldn't know. Thank you again, my friend. I always enjoy your thoughts and candor on life and the art of writing.

I believe it is the near demise of childhood when these myths begin to be revealed as fake. That's about the time you begin the slow advancement into adulthood. It's so sad when you begin to lose the sheen of the "Peter Pan" mindset where life is only about playing games and laughing. Thank you so much, Chris, for sharing your thoughts and past experience on the subject. I truly appreciate it.
