All Around Me

All Around Me

A Poem by Prototato
"

Realization, deterioration, and improvement.

"
I look around me, and I think misery
I try to aid those who are in need
Not realizing I'm already a glass house breaking
Eyeing the drywall and brick as though it can be shattered
Trying to protect the protected, pulling myself apart
Cracks line my house, and I don't care
I carry the weight I think I have to, no matter the cost
Holding together the house and holding up the others, now reliant
Adding the weight, disregarding your house
Now irreversably cracked, practically shattered
And finally, finally you can let the weight go, and as it turns out
Those brick houses and drywall houses were a centimeter thick
You helped
As you look out, through whatever minescule uncracked glass remains
That they're happy
And all that you are
Is about to fall apart
And there is absolutely
Nothing
You
Can
Do.

You know... I recently wrote comparing myself to a house. I called it abandoned beauty. I find this beautiful. The way you see things from your point of view and the way you express them so skillfully. Keep writing. Your more than just an aspiring writer... you just... are

This was so beautifully depressing, it literally brought tears to my eyes. I don't know whether I should give you applause or a hug.

"I carry the weight I think I have to" this is like one of the best poems I've ever read. Simply too relatable

Something quite different! I'm not good at reviewing or understanding metaphorical poems, but I guess I got this one (hopefully). Even if I haven't, I can take it the way the want to, for poetry is totally ambiguous. Talking about the poem, it really was a unique idea, and it caught my eye. I can quite relate to the first bit of the poem. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing!

A nice idea well executed.
One small suggestion; I felt a slight disconnect between the lines
''uncracked glass remains' and
'That they're happy'.'
I would be tempted to add the words 'You see' before the second line.
I look forward to reading more of your work.
