Mississippi SummerA Poem by AkechetaMemories of my childhood in Mississippi
Quietly I sit
Upon a grassy knoll Surrounded by fire ant beds A dark water stream Lazily meanders by Whispering cool greetings In a hot sun But I sit Still as snow Watching Waiting Listening All is silent Still Wonderfully quiet A breeze Only a breeze to hear Oh, and the occasional Brim striking the surface Hunting that haphazard bug Still Quiet Still Hot Still Waiting Oh Mississippi Summer! © 2016 Akecheta |
