A Shaman's WakeA Poem by AkechetaPoem of Native Live
Life is still
Balance achieved with his Will The heart’s thunderous cries To the wake when a Shaman dies Look now upon the bed Where the drum beats on it is said In mournful procession display On the winds hollow scream this day The village morns their loss As the wheat is blown away in the toss But mourning gives way and a smile does try When hope is heard in a newborn’s cry © 2016 Akecheta
