Writer's Block

Writer's Block

A Poem by HungryGhost
"

Have you ever found yourself bursting with the need to write, only to find yourself frozen? This poem encourages you to delve deep into the reason behind your fear - yes fear - of writing.

"
Perhaps the prying eyes of your mother in your secret diary, or the certificate of "drama queen" handed to you by your childhood best friend.

No matter what it is, pick at the knee-cap scabs you earned by cartwheeling down school slopes. Dust that intricate spiderweb weaved amongst your brain cogs away - only you can get them whirring again.

I use song and I read the classics. Some Donne, some Ben Jonsen and Hemingway. Good song make my mind open-up. I also seek words. I write them to paper, words that catch my attention. I believe you need a proper place to write. I write my best stuff at the library. Good to have met you.

I love this idea. I like how the first paragraph is first in literal events but then turns into a metaphoric symbolism. I love the second half, especially. I imagine the scab actually being the person joyfully plowing through and writing their heart away. One day, in the "school yard" a "student" crashed into them and sent their "cartwheel" astray and gave them that injury.

Purely beautiful symbols.

My advice is to just write. No matter what comes out I find I can usually draw with it. I hope that doesn't sound too pretentious. Now what you have written above catches all sorts of things in my head and goes to where I think all good writers go that is to the personal and from that comes the stories.

That doesn't sound pretentious at all! Thank you for reading and commenting :).
That's true,
Sometimes I would feel like writing but nothing would seems to be available, sometimes I know what to write but don't know how to start. It really happens.

It sure does! Sometimes we might just need a break. It always comes in the end. Thanks for stopping .. read more

Yeah, you are right.
And... You are welcome.
For me, writer's block is more about empty ideas. My latest poems came within minutes so I wrote down the idea and revised within a short time. That's usually how I break through, but each idea creeps up when I least expect it.

I do think your idea of fear is a valid one. Prying eyes or anticipation of someone walking in while your writing your most private ideas can cause a slight stigma that could attach itself. Not to mention the scorn of others who know of your favorite hobby, thinking it silly.
