My Heart

My Heart

A Poem by look.both.ways

I am overwhelmed with sadness.

Without my heart, my chest is empty.

There is no movement from me.

My blood sits still, awaiting the return of my heart.

My lungs don't move, there is nothing they move for.

Not without my heart.

My eyes don't see, I lay asleep.

Waiting for my heart to come and wake me up.

I'll go nowhere.

Without my heart, there is no place I want to be.

You will not see me cry, I have no reason to cry.

You will not see me smile, I have no reason to smile.

Without my heart, I have no reason for anything.

My hands are cold.

Without my heart to keep them warm.

I am not myself.

Without my heart, there is a piece of me gone.

I long to feel the warmth of my heart again.

To fill the emptiness in chest.

Come back to me.

Powerful poem. Raw and intense. It reminds me of the Tin Man. Your final line, a plea, is a nice ending to this poem. Though the poem conveys pain, you leave the reader with hope, even if faint. Nice work!
