Aunt DeniseA Poem by BrianI've been thinking about her a lot lately.A simple visit to move her chair, The apartment is a mess. First she trys to move it herself, But she quickly runs out of breath. My father's only sister, Lives in the neighborhood adjacent. Ashamed at where her life has gone, She can barely face it. Taking pills from a plastic bag An attempt to relieve the stress A lethal dose of a homemade remedy Choking her to death The last words I would hear her speak "I love you" as she kissed my cheek I said "whatever..." in response
