BeastA Poem by S. WaldoMy twist on a classic fairy tale introduction. "Who could ever learn to love a beast"An old hag, wrinkled and ugly Comes knocking on the door. Offering a rose for shelter From the raging storm that night.
The spoiled young prince Took one look Then turned his head, Ignoring her plea.
"Be wary," she said "For appearance is not all." She begged again for a roof Saying "True beauty is from within."
Not listening to this wisdom The prince looked to her face And sent her away Unaware of of the awful consequences.
Before his eyes, she changed Melting the ugliness to reveal A beautiful enchantress Holding her mysterious rose.
Attempting to apologize The prince was too late For the woman could see He did not feel love.
As for his punishment He got transformed into a beast. A hideous being The dashing prince became.
Giving him the rose The enchantress spoke "You and all your servants Are under a spell."
"It can only be broken If you can learn to love As she will love you." Ashamed the prince hid.
If he could earn a woman's love And learn to love others Before the last petal fell The spell would be lifted.
With only a mirror to the outside The prince turned angry and depressed. And fell into despair, all hope gone For who could love a beast? © 2013 S. WaldoReviews
