We all want to believe our children will love us
Hold us, kiss us, stay with us,
and wrap their little hands around our fingers
Big eyes watch big people with big love
But they're a squirmy type
Run away, out of our arms
No matter how far we stretch
Exploring dust bunnies in corners
Carrying shoes to bury in the sand box
They all, will all, run away
And you see then,
Perhaps they are not yours.
Individuals behind those big eyes
And we, again, are left to watch
Like past loves left,
Mother, fathers, gone,
And a thousand friends,
drifted away
We own no one,
Our children owe nothing
And we will all realize how little we are
How alone we are
And in that we must find some happiness
We must find some truth
For them, for us,
For you
Gosh I hope you're wrong. I've invested myself completely in my babies and if they run away I'll just have to run with them! But I suppose it could be true....(sniff) ~Tara
I needed to hear these words, for so many reasons. I ventured over to your site to read up and there was this perfect expression of an anguish I was feeling, comfort in your words!! Well done Charles.
This is a wonderful piece. Its definitely a genuine affirmation, as we are always so quick to own something. Whether its our children, our friends, our space I connected with piece, as a daughter and mother. I had to read it a few times, to enjoy it in its entirety. The feelings and images that you described were phenomenal. The flow was excellent and well written. Fantastic read and write. Kudos. I look forward to reading more of your work. *Smile**
I agree with Michelle. Very well written. Beautiful work. It makes me want to appreciate my son even more because one day he will be grown. I really like this piece. Good work.
Wow! Very well written. Anyone who has lost a loved one, or has children will understand what you are saying here. Well done! I look forward to seeing more of your work.
