For You

For You

A Poem by Charles Konsor

We all want to believe our children will love us
Hold us, kiss us, stay with us,
and wrap their little hands around our fingers
Big eyes watch big people with big love

But they're a squirmy type
Run away, out of our arms
No matter how far we stretch

Exploring dust bunnies in corners
Carrying shoes to bury in the sand box
They all, will all, run away

And you see then,
Perhaps they are not yours.

Individuals behind those big eyes
And we, again, are left to watch
Like past loves left,
Mother, fathers, gone,
And a thousand friends,
drifted away

We own no one,
Our children owe nothing
And we will all realize how little we are
How alone we are

And in that we must find some happiness
We must find some truth
For them, for us,
For you

I am here, in this place you describe so well.

Alone, in the middle. Alone as a son and a father.
Both drawing away, and having been drawn away from.

My father; me, a father and
My sons; me a son.

And do they see the writer's heart I wear on my writer's sleeve, my parents, my children. me, in the middle.

As a parent, I can relate to this poem ... wonderfully written ...

Awesome realization and writing of self-less love, truth, reality and letting go. I am a parent and I love my child more than life itself. I have watched my child grow and blossom into a wonderful, amazing, considerate, and life-loving individual. I know that my child has learned many lessons. I have no doubt that my child trusts his own judgement. My child and I have unconditional love for each other because we respect each others individuality and realize we each have our own identity. GREAT poem!!!

Maybe I would be able to appreciate this poem better if I was a momma

The mix between happiness and reality is constructed on a very loved and appropriate subject, and there's not a hitch of egoism ! :)

I liked it.

This poem really captures a lot of what being a parent is all about, at least for me anyway. Our children are never only"ours' they are always and forever themselves. Very poignant and moving. thanks for writing this piece.

A poem that starts so happy but ends up so sad. :( I do not deny the truth of these words, but I prefer not to think of life this way. If I prove to be a good father one day I imagine they'll come back to visit.

As a parent, this poem touched me so much. I dont think that there is anyone that can tear you apart or make you feel more loved than a child.
This is a wonderful work.

I love this piece. It contains so much honesty. We own no one. How often have I heard that on tv and in real life when children are arguing with their parents or adults or anyone for that matter are arguing, They'll say { You don't own me, I'll do what I please }

Very well done. Smooth flowing.
Something people can relate to.
