For You

For You

A Poem by Charles Konsor

We all want to believe our children will love us
Hold us, kiss us, stay with us,
and wrap their little hands around our fingers
Big eyes watch big people with big love

But they're a squirmy type
Run away, out of our arms
No matter how far we stretch

Exploring dust bunnies in corners
Carrying shoes to bury in the sand box
They all, will all, run away

And you see then,
Perhaps they are not yours.

Individuals behind those big eyes
And we, again, are left to watch
Like past loves left,
Mother, fathers, gone,
And a thousand friends,
drifted away

We own no one,
Our children owe nothing
And we will all realize how little we are
How alone we are

And in that we must find some happiness
We must find some truth
For them, for us,
For you

I am here, in this place you describe so well.

Alone, in the middle. Alone as a son and a father.
Both drawing away, and having been drawn away from.

My father; me, a father and
My sons; me a son.

And do they see the writer's heart I wear on my writer's sleeve, my parents, my children. me, in the middle.

i love this and its dripping with truth. my children are growing so fast and don't "want" mommie so much any more. this was an eye opener.

They all leave one time or another.. no one stays in one place.. go figure
Life.. and we wonder.. as we leave them too...and drift away in the...
eternal ... life has a wise twisted... that gives me chills...
We all leave.. so true

You explain it ... in an amazing way... love it

My daughter just had my first grandchild, less than two months ago, and this describes so well the way he already is and will be.

Yes, that's exactly how it is, isn't it? It's so sad on one side, and hopeful on the other. This was so great, especially the "Big eyes watch big people with big love". Thank you. I really loved this.

This was a really good piece. It almost brought tears to my eyes, as I'm sitting here watching my own son play with his toys. I always call him mine, my baby, I gave birth to him, no one else can do anything about it. But I'm wrong. He most certainly is his own person. He will grow up and find his own way in the world. As sad and happy as it makes me simultaneously, it will happen.

This was a truthful and beautiful piece all around! I must say I read it more than once, and I will definitely add this to my reading list! Thank you for contributing this, it was beyond well worth reading!

Such a sweet poem that one day hopefully everyone will get to see... and though it may be sad we have to hold on to the hope that they will come back!

I really liked it!

Very beautiful!

I especially liked this part.

But they're a squirmy type
Run away, out of our arms
No matter how far we stretch

Exploring dust bunnies in corners
Carrying shoes to bury in the sand box
They all, will all, run away

And you see then,
Perhaps they are not yours.

Isn't that what we as parents are preparing them for. To go out into the world and be all they can be.

Yes every parent will relate to this. The infant you protect. The Toddlier going off on their own. The school age child, so independent. The teen that believes that they know more than you. And finally the adult child who makes you proud to know you have brought them there. Yes the empty nest is lonely, but soon grandchildren will come and your nest is full again.

Beautifully done.

I felt when I had my son that I had cut out part of my heart and soul and left him to run around the world knowing full well that there were so many things to tread upon him. They grow so quickly and soon they want to be with friends rather than snuggle and pay attention to their parents every move. Although, we, accepting we are loving parents, give them the basis of the ability to love and learn. Nicely rendered work. A piece that really captures the essence of the growth and subsequent flying from the nest that does leave us with just memories at times. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Light,
Siddartha
