Being Small

Look

I may be small

i may not be worthy

i may not be as tall

as you guys

i might be younger

i might be nobody

but i stick with my only brother

family is what we all need

don't forget it

because even if you pick on me

even if you make me feel bad

even if you hate me

even if you make me sad

even if you crush my dreams

even if i flow farther away from my family

even if i die

even if you dislike me

even if i am lost at sea

even if i cant sleep

i am proud to be me

my people hate me

they think i'm different

they think i am a loser

they know i can't do anything right

they think i am lost in space

but me and my brother know

that we can make a difference in us

in me

in you

in us

in being small

don't pick on the smaller ones

we hate it.

please make the smaller ones like me feel good about themselves.

Well I'm 5'2" and am many years older than 5'2" would suggest...it's hard to get respect under those circumstances (for a guy at least) so I definitely feel this one. I always wanted something like this but you've summed it up pretty well here...great piece.

yes this is very insporational. i was picked on as a child so i wrote this to show those who picked on me who i really am and how i hatd being picked o just because i'm small

I used to be really small in elementary school. The third to smallest kid in my class, actually. Maybe my classmates didn't like me, I know for certain some didn't. Maybe I didn't do things the way THEY liked it, but I did things the way I liked it, and I was proud of what I did. By the time I left that elementary school, I hope (and think) that I proved to the haters that there's a lot more to a person than size. It's the person inside that counts.

That's what this poem reminds me of when I read it. I also like how you focused back on family. Nice job on this write! :) 'i am proud to be me' - my favorite line.
