(Evelynn's Point of View.)A Chapter by locoforcoco
(Chapter 1- Eve)
I heard the droplets of rain softly hit the roof. I slid out of my chair and onto the cold wooden floor. I looked around the room, only to see my little sister, Rose, lying awake on the bed we share. "Close your eyes. Everything will be okay now," I whispered to her. It was not okay though. My mother was deathly ill and my father was off at war. With poverty threatening to strangle us, and nine other siblings to feed, things were not the best. Now that dark thoughts invade my mind, I find it impossible for sleep. So I get up and pull on my worn out jacket, leather boots, and shove a dagger into my belt. Sure, daggers aren't my best weapon, but my dad gave that one to me, saying it was special somehow. I opened the door, quietly as I could, only to run into my older brother, Adam. "Evelynn, where are you going at this time?" He asked me. "Adam, I'm 14, I'll manage for two hours. By the way, call me Eve, I prefer it," I mentioned. He sighed. "You're name is Evelynn, so that's what I'm going to call you." "You ARE a pain, you know that?" I told him. "Yup, a pain who's two years older than you. Which means, I have a right to know where you're going," he said with a sly smile. "Into town. I'm going to the market," I lied. He rolled his eyes, and then let me through the doorway. I started to walk into town, but once I got to a certain point, I changed directions, and went into the forest. I walked under the canopy of dead trees, that pollution ruined. I walk for a few miles when I come across a lovely meadow where wildflowers bloom freely, and everything feels at peace for a while. I see my friends already gathered I'm our usual meeting spot, so I go over to them. "Hey," Misty said, a girl with long brown hair, and bright green eyes. I go over to Chase, Haven, and Seqoia, feeling myself open up. "And here she is," Chase said in a fake announcers voice. He was tan, and had messy black hair, and blue eyes. "Shut up," I said laughing. "Dont let him get to you Evelynn," Haven mocked, his shaggy red hair getting in his silver eyes. I rolled my eyes. "Hi Seqoia," I greeted, seeing as she wasn't annoying me. She looked up at me. She had a dark tan, brown eyes, and wavy black hair. "Hello," she said, fiddling with a flower. I smiled. Since she was the youngest out of us all, she was often the most shy. We were all bound together by one thing, the need to survive. Sometimes, when things got too bad, we would play a game called 'Remember When.' You said 'Remember when,' then mention a happier time. Today wasn't the day for that though. "How've things been going?" Misty asked me. I shrugged. "I don't know. Gisele isn't taking the news on my mother's condition well." Gisele is my little sister, she's only three. Sure, Rose is four, but she's too young to understand. Then there was Sable, she was 15, and tried to stay strong. Then there's Nylah, she's 14, and me. For the boys in my family there's Felix and Gabriel, they're 13 year old twins. Adam, obviously, he's 16. Link, he's only 7. Lastly, there's Zander, he's two. Most of them are pretty torn up, bit we're trying to hold on, we are. It's just, not always easy. I thought about this when Felix crashed through the trees. "What? What's wrong?" I exclaimed looking at his pale face. "Its mother! She's- her heartbeat is slowing down," he replied stuttering. Without further words, I ran until I reached the house, feeling blood pounding in my ears. I went into my mother's room to see her gasping for air. I kneel next to her, and she presses her hand against my cheek. "Take care of them. Adam has good intentions, but he's overprotective," she whispered. I closed my eyes, careful not to miss a single word. "I-I will," I stumbled. She smiled softly, and her hand fell limply to her side. Once alive eyes forever staring at the ceiling. © 2013 locoforcocoAuthor's Note
