Cedrus LibaniA Poem by carmina![]() I view this cedar tree every day, large beautiful and old.![]() Cedrus Libani Oh thou
giant cedar tree, With a
trunk as portly as a kings midriff. You have
graced upon your ground with pride, Graciously
you stand next to her, The manors magnificent structure erect. You have stretched your
boughs out, Offered
them with magnanimous obligation. How many
of your feathered friends, Have sat
in your auditorium? The best
view for free? You have watched over the young saplings, While they
outgrow their scion, as they reach up to the sky, Absorbing the
suns ray, gaining in their stature, Tolerating
the winters finger, Fraught by
dry summers, Skirmishing
the witches’ broom.Still you command that effectiveness, Your
magnificence, exclusive, incomparable, Master of
coniferous, You are
the monumental cedrus genus. As the manors, mortar colour, Changed
through an age of time, You still
stand green, but mature. The
elements were victorious over you, Environment
has denied you clemency. Your old
neighbour the oak has fallen, A storm
has shook your solid roots, You tilt,
holding your tower of strength, One last upright
finale. Like a
king abdicating his throne, You take
your last bough.
