"Being in the Wilderness"

"Being in the Wilderness"

A Poem by L.C. Jarrette
"

Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit." (i forgot who said this...so sorry)

"

The sirocco of Sahara I face

Tread barchans of crescent dunes

This lion-like lightning is looking for lunes.

Sleep soundly in the comfort of thorns

And be stuck in a swamp

Escape from the nest!

Alas! It’s not where you belong

The one in a standstill

Tired of the tedious routines

There’s more to life than what it seems.

Robin’s-egg blue

Bracelets of Egypt’s Queen

Envisaging quests from a dream.

Exploit towering cyclones

For there lies diamond Jupiter skies.

Ancient people from the tribes

Follow the murmurs of the river

But only eagles fly…

With eagles

This is breathtaking! Just beautiful imagery, and I agree with the quote at the beginning - completely!

I've been in the wilderness in many forms and fashions. It has its romance in seclusion; a bit of what this poem strives to represent. But whether mountains, island or desert I found in my travels I was always happy to return home. Solitude is wonderful for awhile but only for awhile.

I find the moment of solitude as a time for introspection. Sometimes we see life merely as a form of.. read more

Good poem! Reminds me a bit of Jack London, to be honest but that's a compliment.

You should write a poem about the lonely wilderness bring out the Beast within a person, the uncivilized portion of the Human Condition.

An enjoyable poem to read.

Some of the lines in the second verse seem a bit random but it barely detracts from the overall quality of this poem.

Good Job, L.C.

Just curious, of which gender do you belong? It would aid me in delving deeper into this particular poem. :)

you're welcome!
Your opening quote is by Edward Abbey, the author of a pretty famous book called "Desert Solitaire" & many other good outdoor rustic living books based on his true life experiences. I live in a rustic outdoor way too, so I very much felt drawn in to your poem.

I love reading your imagery becuz it's different in some cases from the idea we have of "desert" here in the American southwest, say. It's fun to see what are the sights & sounds of your desert experience on the other side of the world. I love your outdoor imagery which is freshly stated & original.

Eagles fly with eagles and even then they don't always get on well (The Eagles *wink*)
I never knew robin's eggs were blue and I had a nesting pair all through the end of winter and start of spring !!! - thanks for that - and for this.
