Close EncounterA Story by LeoTrue story
"Any minute now," Mr Hawkins threw a quick look at his Jean Pier gold-plated full hunter pocket watch barely taking his half-squinted eyes off the little green door neatly tucked under the twisted roots of Oakley The Wise. Mr Hawkins was the man of old-school discipline and could tell time quite naturally without the use if modern mechanics. But he was also the man who appreciated the works of finest craftsmanship and simply liked having his most prized possessions around.
" ...so late, I will be so late!" - Mr McSqueak hurriedly put on his long coat, picked up worn but sturdy suitcase, and rushed outside, the tip of his long tail barely escaping the shutting roundness of the front door painted summer green. "What a fine day today!" Mr McSqueak was a busy man indeed, yet he couldn't help but pausing for just a moment to sniff the morning chill of the spring air mixed with early sun and rhythmic beat of Jonathan the Woodpecker... •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• What happened next, an attentive reader might ponder? Something very prosaic - life happened! As Mr McSqueak made another step into such a wonderful morning, and Mr Hawkins spread his wings in one sharp and barely perceivable move, a strong tall creature clumsily crushed through the underbrush breaking dry branches, and making tons of noise. To Mr Hawkins dismay he, apparently, was the main point of interest of this weird, tailless animal trying to get closer and closer to the very branch where Mr Hawkins presumed such a successful spot for his morning watch...there was nothing left for him to do, but to fly off to his good friend Jeremy the Fox for a game of Whist to calm his old nerves.... © 2015 LeoReviews
