Foreign Dreams

A Poem by Jesus & Gypsy Soul

Foreign Dreams

Once a time, though long long ago, Lived a southern woman with a forbidden hope. She longed for travel to occupy time. For an authentic coffeehouse to jot down her rhymes. She dreamed and dared of a terrace set free- of the strife of her life and one too many responsibilities. She longed to see Italy, England and France. A spicy hot lover to set her in trance. To dance & to sway to the fever of tunes. Maybe even set foot in ancient Mayan ruins. The Great Wall of China was only kept from her eyes by a few mouths to feed & the prisonment of playing wife. She was a little selfish, sure, but she was choking for air. What would it take to get the hell out of there? To her job; a slave, to her home; in chains. All she wanted to do was fly out on a plane. Even a train would suffice should she work up the nerve. She could visit a friend in the Chicago suburbs. Deciding to leave, was all that she cared. "I'll tell my husband, I think, that I've had an affair!" Her deadline drew near yet she felt no fear. "Soon I'll be off, my freedom is near!" But before she knew it, she woke up with a start. "Damnit!," she thought, "Guess I better be smart.."
